Summer for Success

During the project, 10 volunteers from various European countries carry out summer camps that is open to local and refugee children. Children can spend time together at the summer camp doing traditional summer camp activities such as playing, singing, swimming and dancing, etc.

Program consist of traditional activities that promote togetherness and nice atmosphere. The camp is easy and simple way to bring together children from different cultures. Through games and activities it is easier for the children to get to know each other. These shared experiences often lead to long-lasting friendships.

The volunteers will plan and lead different kinds of workshops and activities for the summer camps and together with the staff of Villa Elba ensure a safe atmosphere for the campers. This means that volunteers are also expected to be responsible and reliable adults for the campers, follow safety rules and be mentally present during working days. It means for an example that you cannot use your mobile phone during working hours, you focus is on the children all time.

Working hours and holidays:

Weekly working hours are 35 hours. Mostly work is done from Monday to Friday in morning or evening shift, but work can also occur during weekends. Volunteer receives 2 holidays which are held as scheduled by hosting organisation.

Housing, food, and local transport:

Volunteers live together in a flat. Volunteers get lunch during workdays and food money to prepare other meals of the day. For local transport volunteers get a bike.

Training and support:

Volunteers participate in a 5-day on arrival training organised at Youth Centre Villa Elba in Kokkola. Volunteers have a mentor that helps with settling into the new community, supports in difficult times and meets regularly to discuss and reflect learning successes and challenges.
